Description

Lovely ornate Victorian figural napkin rings, set of 4, 2 are stamped Meriden B Company Quadruple Plate, the other 2 Rogers Smith & Co. W. Meriden, Conn.  All are stamped 208. Between 1862 and 1869, there was a gradual takeover of Rogers company so I assume these were made at different times but over the course of the switch over.  Probably the Rogers Smiths are older.  All are a sideways round napkin ring with raised flower/vine design and a decorated hand fan on either side and a butterfly figure underneath the ring.  The ring on one of them is quite a bit different than the other 3 but the base and the fans are basically the same on all 4. They have varying degrees of tarnish, 3 are still pretty shiny, the odd one without the carving along the edges is the brightest silver, though it does have a tiny dent that can be seen in one of the pictures. Two of them have names or initials engraved on the tops, one has a few scratches and roughness on the top of the ring.  The ring engraved "J.H. Ackley from D. Andrews" has a different design on the fan than the others in which the fans are identical on both sides.  It does have the same bird on one side and just a flower on the other and it is etched, rather than a raised design like the other 3 rings.  The bases are all carved ornate leaf pattern and rest on 4 ball feet.  I decided to put them all together as they were so similar.  Toyed with listing them separate but the chance of finding 4 of these together that are this similar is probably not very likely.  Hope you agree. Excellent condition for their age.
