ANTIQUE JAMES W. TUFTS #1607 RECLINING BOY
FIGURAL SILVERPLATE NAPKIN CLIP
Available for purchase is a collectible antique silverplate figural napkin clip made by James W. Tufts Company in Boston, Massachusetts.  This hard-to-find napkin clip depicts a reclining young boy wearing Victorian-era clothing and a wide-brimmed with his chin propped up by one hand.  There is a floral rosette on each side at the bend.  The clip measures about 3 5/8" long and 2 5/8" tall.  The underside of the clip is marked with the James W. Tufts logo and the number "1607".  This clip likely dates to the 1880's when Tufts was producing an extensive line of silverplate items.
I purchased this napkin clip, along with another of the same design (see last photo), at a recent estate sale.  Interestingly, the few other examples of this clip I've seen pictured online have the boy facing in the opposite direction, so Tufts must have made them both ways.  This clip is also somewhat unique because the model number "1607" was stamped with an extra digit that was scratched out.  The other clip found with this one also had the identical stamping error.
Condition of this figural napkin clip is VERY GOOD.  It was very dirty when I acquired it (see last photo for comparison), so I felt compelled to clean it up.  It could still use some additional cleaning, if desired.  Overall, this Victorian-era napkin clip looks fantastic and displays well.  It would make a fine addition to any collection.  Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and determine condition for yourself.  I'm confident you'll be very pleased with this purchase!
